How To Take Risks

I’ll never forget talking to my brother on the phone and saying, “I don’t think I’ve ever been more excited about Best You.”

This was in December of 2019.

I had just read a book.

I had come up with an idea.

And I was getting ready to put it to the test.

In 2019 I read a book called, The 4 Disciplines of Execution by Chris McChesney. I then had the fortunate opportunity to interview Chris 2x on The Best You Podcast.

Still 2 of my favorite interviews – you can listen to them HERE if you’d like.

Reading the book sparked the idea for creating the 10-Week Transformation.

So, I told some people about it.

I had 7 people sign up.

And I wanted these people to be as impacted by the book as I was.

So…

I had them read it.

I had 7 people read a book before starting a fitness program.

It still makes me laugh, but I didn’t know how else to start.

I then hosted these same 7 people at my house before starting the program to discuss their goals.

We hung out in my family room; we went through a PowerPoint I made; and we talked about their goals.

Again, this makes me laugh, but I didn’t know how best to start.

However, I knew I didn’t need to know the best way to start, but I had to start in order to find out the best way.

Then in January 2020 we started the first ever 10-Week Transformation.

Idea + Courage = Action

In Week 7 of this program, the notorious tornado hit Nashville. In Week 8, COVID started to shut down some businesses. In Week 9, we had to stop meeting for workouts.

Huge bummer.

Then we did it virtually.

When things started to open back up, we went back to in person.

And ever since, we have never not done a 10-Week Transformation.

We have always done them back-to-back, every 10 weeks, with the exception of a 2-week break around Christmas and New Year’s.

It hasn’t always been easy. We’ve had to find 3 different gyms to host workouts in. We’ve had to work around changing schedules.

But I always had belief in its potential.

Patience + Belief = Consistency

The thing I might be most proud of when it comes to the 10-Week Transformation is that every single time it gets better.

It started with everyone reading a book…

Like, I made everyone read a book…

It’s comical.

Now we have modules, workbooks, accountabilibuddies, performance tests, and so many more things that make the 10-WT what it is today.

It started with 1 group of 7 people.

Now, in March 2023, we have a record – 4 groups totaling 54 people.

It blows my mind to even type that.

Intentionality + Persistence = Results

Y’all…

Just in case you didn’t hear me…

In 2019…I made people read a book before starting a fitness program.

I had no idea how to start.

But I just got started.

I know a lot of us have an idea to do something, but we don’t know the best way.

We think we have to get in shape before starting fitness goal…

We think we need to pick the best book before starting to read…

We think we need to know the best diet before trying to lose weight…

We think we need to know how to build a business before starting it…

But the reality is you don’t need to know the answers before you get started.

“You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.”
