Help! I'm So Impatient With The Process

As a go-getter.

As an entrepreneur.

This is my biggest struggle.

I am impatient with the process.

I wish I had reached the next level of success yesterday. More money, more clients, more podcast downloads. Can this happen tomorrow, pretty please?

A lot of you struggle with the same thing. You wish you were more fit, weighed less, had more muscle, and could run faster.

You wish all of that could happen by tomorrow.

It can be maddening when things…feel like…they are taking…for…ev…er.

But you're frustrated because you’re forgetting about a few things…
My Experience
I know deep down that success takes time. And it’s supposed to take time.

In my eyes, it weeds out the weak. The fact that - success in all areas of life is difficult - is why so few people reach their full potential.

Everyday I realize more and more that patience is a superpower.

Patience can be your competitive advantage.

The ability to not fall subject to instant gratification but rather embrace delayed gratification is an art.

I recognized very early on in my days as an entrepreneur that this was my biggest internal struggle - patience with the process.

In recognizing that, I’ve worked really hard to be more patient. To enjoy the journey.

To not wait for the destination to be happy, but to be happy now and every step of the way.

I’m not perfect at it, but I’m a whole lot better than I used to be.

During the emotional and psychological roller coasters, I have relied on 3 things to keep me more patient, more at peace, and more joyful during the process.
3 Tips For How To Be More Patient
1. Have Faith In God
I’m not about to go off on some long sermon, don’t worry.

And I’m not the most religious person in the world. But I grew up Catholic, grew up in Faith, and it has definitely provided me with a sense of, “things will turn out the way they’re supposed to.”

I do believe deep down that good things happen to good people who are trying to do good things.

And so, when I’m feeling impatient and frustrated, I go back to my motives. I go back to why I do what I do.

And that’s because I truly care about helping others get closer to the best version of themselves. My personal mission statement in life is this:

I exist to get closer to the best version of myself so that I can help others get closer to the best version of themselves.

I want people to live healthier lives so they have more confidence and can achieve all their goals.

It goes like this:

Confidence in my motives + Faith that good things happen to good people
= Patience and belief that things will turn out for me, too.
2. Have Faith In Yourself
How do you have faith in yourself?

I think faith in yourself is a little different than confidence.

“Confidence comes from seeing what you’ve done in the past; while faith comes from knowing what you’ll do in the future.”

I have confidence in myself because I have seen the successes and the wins that I have had in the past.

And I let that confidence fuel my faith. I’m not sure what’s going to happen in the future, but I have faith that I’m going to do everything I can and for the right reasons.

While faith and confidence in yourself is not the same, I do believe that confidence is a prerequisite to faith.

I have faith in myself because I can reflect back on how I’ve performed during uncertain times in my past.

I have faith in myself because I have proven that I’m the type of person who follows through with the promises that I make to myself regardless of the circumstances.

Build up that proof for yourself.

Be the person who follows through.

Don’t be the traditional 20 or 30-year old and be flaky.

No one likes a flaky person. Flaky people don’t even like themselves.

Be a person of your word; be a person who follows through.

Then your self-confidence will grow and, in turn, so will your faith in yourself.

3. Don’t Define Yourself By Results
If you define yourself by the number on the scale, you’re setting yourself up for failure.

If you define yourself by how much money you have, your job title, who you’re dating or married to, how much weight you can lift, or how fast you can run, you’re setting yourself up for failure.

“Don’t define yourself by your results, because those are fleeting. Define yourself by your identity, because you’ll carry that with you your whole life.”

Define yourself by your motives - why you do what you do.

Define yourself by your integrity - are you a person of your word.

Define yourself by your execution of the process - are you consistent with your habits.

If you can focus on these things, the results will take care of themselves.
Conclusion
Patience is a virtue.

We’ve all heard it.

I believe,

“Patience is a virtue when had with others, and it’s a superpower when had with ourselves.”

If you’re able to fully grasp that success is supposed to take time, then you’ll finally provide yourself with permission to start enjoying the process.

That doesn’t mean you’ll always be super patient and happy all the time.

But it will help. And you’ll get better at it if you remember these 3 things:
1. Have Faith In God
2. Have Faith In Yourself
3. Don’t Define Yourself By Results

If you were too impatient to read this whole thing, then sorry, you probably won’t reach your full potential.

But if you were, and you are reading this, then congrats, you are well on your way to your Best You!
