My Christmas Day Message To You

Merry Christmas everyone.

I wanted to write a special Christmas day blog for y'all and cover a few things to keep in mind today.

1. Remember What Christmas Is Really About

I want to start by saying remember what this day is supposed to be about. This day is supposed to be about family, friends, and being thankful for all of our blessings.

Especially thankful for God’s blessing to the world in his son Jesus.

To show our gratitude for God’s gift to us, we show our gratitude by giving gifts to our loved ones in our life.

While the lights, the smells, the food, and the gifts are amazing, remember this time is really about celebrating God's gift to the world, celebrating loved ones, and being grateful.

2. Keep Perspective

Today, if your family is pissing you off, if your football team loses, basketball team loses, or if you’re frustrated with the gifts you got, try to keep things in perspective.

If you are reading this, you are blessed beyond belief. You have so much to be thankful for and remember to focus on those things. Focus on what you do have rather than what you don’t

To stay on the topic of perspective, a lot of you have eaten more unhealthily than normal over the past couple of days, or maybe the past couple of weeks, or maybe the past couple of months…

It’s okay.

This whole thing called health has no finish line. You’re not stuck where are you today. You have the ability to move forward, make new goals, make new choices, and become a completely new version of yourself.

Where you are today is simply a reflection of the habits you’ve had up until now. But who you will be this time next year, will be a reflection of your habits that take place over the next 365 days. And you have the power to change and improve those habits!

So, if you haven’t been super healthy as of late, don’t get down on yourself. Things can change and you have the power to make that happen.

3. Make Today "Not As Bad As It Could Be" Health Wise

Remember today to be intentional with your decisions from a health perspective. Today does not need to be the healthiest day of all time.

I know I’m going to both drink and eat more than I normally do. I’m going to enjoy some homemade desserts that my Mom and my Aunt made. I’m going to enjoy some ice cold Modelo, maybe a Christmas cocktail if my sister and cousin decide to make them, and some red wine at dinner.

Tomorrow, I’m probably not going to wake up feeling amazing...

Now, I’m not going to be super hungover, but I’m probably not going to be as bright-eyed and bushy-tailed as I normally am.

But for me, that’s okay.

However, I will make today not as bad as it could be.

For me that will look like doing a workout in the morning. And then not starting to drink alcohol until after 2pm, then not overdoing it on appetizers. Then eat 1.5 plates of food rather than 2 full plates. And then stop drinking alcohol by 9:30pm.

And for me that is a whole lot better than it could be.

I could not workout, eat too many appetizers, feel uncomfortably full after dinner, and then feel hungover tomorrow.

But by approaching it with the “not as bad as it could be” mindset, I'll feel a whole lot better and better about myself tomorrow.

So, whatever “not as bad as it could be” looks like for you, take that approach today.
